Riding

Many of our members are active trail riders so during the prime riding season we have a scheduled chapter ride several times a month. But that isn't enough riding for some people so members can usually hook-up with someone going somewhere

Maintenance

Licking County OHC members volunteer in the local county parks and in Ohio's state parks and forests.  We assist in maintaining equestrian trails in the Licking County Park District and have "adopted" the orange trail at Salt Fork.  We are usually heavily involved in trail maintenance in the spring and at other times of the year as needed.

The Licking County Chapter actively supports the efforts of the Ohio Trails Partnership (OTP) in building and maintaining "muscle powered" trails thru-out the state of Ohio.  In 2004 Licking County OHC, along with three other OHC chapters, hosted the 2004 March Work Weekend at Salt Fork State Park.  Over a 100 volunteers from the Ohio Horseman's Council (OHC), Buckeye Trail Association (BTA), and the Ohio and International Mountain Bike Associations (OMBA and IMBA) came together to build 3.4 miles of bridle and mountain bike trails. The OTP just announced that the 2006 Work Weekend will be held at Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Local Trails

There are currently three parks in the Licking County Park District which have horse trails (Infirmary Mound Park, Lobdell Reserve and Taft Reserve).  Additional information and trail maps can be obtained at the park district's offices at Infirmary Mound Park, 4309 Lancaster Road SE, Granville, Ohio or their website  www.lickingparkdistrict.com  During wet weather the trails are sometimes closed to prevent excessive erosion.  Trail status information can be obtained on the website or the Park Districts Hotline  (614) 349-4823.

See our calendar for our upcoming trail rides and trail maintenance dates, or contact the following trail committees for additional information:
